Vesperus xatarti
English: Grapevine vesperus
Spanish: Castañeta del viñedo
Portuguese: Vespero da vinha

Pheromone lures for the longhorn beetle Vesperus xatarti are now available from Pherobank. This Mediterranean species can be locally abundant and is of interest in ecological studies and in monitoring populations in affected areas.

The female-produced sex pheromone of V. xatarti, commonly referred to as vesperal, has been identified as (1S)-4-Methyl-α-methylene-2-oxo-3-cyclohexene-1-acetaldehyde by the group of Boyer in 1997 1. This pheromone compound has been formulated by Pherobank in ready-for-use lures that provide a reliable and species-specific attractant for males.

Lures are produced using carefully selected dispenser types to ensure a consistent pheromone release rate under field conditions. As with other Pherobank products, the formulation aims at high sensitivity and practicality for monitoring flight activity and population dynamics over the season.

Pherobank focuses on supplying top-quality pheromones, including many “non-standard” compounds for specialized monitoring applications. With the addition of V. xatarti to the product range, users have access to an extended portfolio of pheromone lures for both research and applied pest management in forestry and natural habitats.
